The new release of our Dynamic Publishing Software – InBetween 4.6 SR1 – is officially available.
Nowadays, a publication is not created by one person only. From the first ideas to the final production, it is the common work of different persons. Consequently, InBetween 4.6 brings several improvements for the support of teamwork and collaborations: Comments and instructions can be easily added, workflows can be defined, and comprehensive publications can be structured by sections. The different responsible persons can work in parallel on the same publication.
The use of the Flipbook has been optimized, now offering a search functionality, a navigation overview and a multi-language user interface. The generation of PDF documents is now more than 40% faster than in InBetween 4.5. DTP Client user interface has been entirely integrated into the look and feel of Adobe InDesign. Please welcome the new Joblist in DTP client. InBetween 4.6 SR1 allows even the propagation of changes in the frame structure, e.g., new table rows and columns, which will be passed to the document to be updated. Existing values and manual formatting in the document will be kept.
Moreover, the capacities to create templates directly in Adobe InDesign have been enhanced. Completely new and versatile layout perspectives originate from the option embedding InDesign scripts withing the generation process. Using table headers and footers simultaneously offers new ways to structure tables.
Besides the improved output formats Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, InBetween 4.6 SR1 also supports the current versions of Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress. There are two alternative calculation modules for font metrics, allowing the most accurate result for each project.
Last but not least, installation and handling of the new InBetween has been simplified. InBetween 4.6 SR1 comes with an integrated Java runtime environment and an integrated Tomcat Web Server. A separate Java installation is no more necessary.
Since the beginning of the InBetween product story, it was possible adding comments directly in InBetween using dedicated frames on a revision layer. This functionality has been considerably improved by new graphical elements in InBetween Publication Wizard and InDesign DTP-Client, allowing customers not only inserting comments but also visual emphases on page level. Collaboration within a multi-user environment among the persons responsible for a publication, product managers, graphic designers and marketing specialists will be upgraded to a completely new level of communication.
With the new release, even more complex workflows and working processes can be supported by the publishing system. Tasks such as publication planning, page composition, finishing, translation, and approvals can be defined in details and assigned to the individual actors or user groups. State information can be set for the entire publication or single pages, including a detailed description. Email notifications can be triggered. The new release even allows different users working on the same publication at the same time.
Longer publications usually consist of different parts, representing different product groups or company areas, for which dedicated persons are responsible. The new release allows to express and display this segmentation visually using sections. Moreover, it is possible adding placeholder pages to a publication, in order to pin the total number of pages or the number of pages within a section, without having the need to determine structure and content of the pages. Placeholder pages can be designed and populated with generated or editorial content at a later time.
Publications always and everywhere: Use the new Flipbook! As a pure web application based on HTML5, only a popular web browser is necessary to show a catalog in a print-like way. This makes flipbook catalogs independent from operating systems and devices, and opens a wide range of applications from desktop computers until mobile applications. Both online and offline scenarios can be supported. The Flipbook can be called either locally on the file system or via the Internet, e.g., provided for download on the company web site. In order to find specific contents easily, Flipbook offers various kinds of search methods, reaching from a simple full-text search to enhanced options. For a survey of the entire publication, a page overview can be used, providing a fast and easy way to navigate through the pages. The language of the user interface can be changed in the menu. For each language, the displayed texts and labels can be adapted individually for each Flipbook.
InDesign scripts are suitable for various design concepts: Mere mechanized tasks and complex functionalities – all this is possible with one click. With InBetween 4.6 SR1, these possibilities are also applicable within automated publication generation. For the output formats Adobe InDesign, HQ‑PDF, and Interactive PDF, an available InDesign script can be selected which will be executed automatically during generation process. Parameter and data needed by the script can be provided, too. Creative special effects, interrelations to other documents – the areas of application are not limited.
The new feature “Frame update” in the Joblist allows updates of existing documents even more precisely, providing a very detailed overview on data changes. For example, Joblist now displays changes in the table structure, and not only the contents of table cells can be updated, but also table rows and columns can be replaced, inserted, and deleted. With the new update mechanism, InBetween can adapt newly created frames and table cells to the existing InDesign layout. The user has the choice whether the styles defined in the InBetween templates, the styles defined in the InDesign document, or a combination of both will be used. This even works when an entire publication is being generated in an existing InDesign document.
